Why 10 mg is the weekend tablet
Lilly's Cialis label starts most adults at 10 mg taken before anticipated activity. That is the milligram this glint stays on. Five milligrams is a step down for side effects. Twenty milligrams is a later step up. Daily 2.5 mg is a different clock and a different foil - see the sibling glint if that is the script.
Couples treat short-acting tablets like parking meters. Tadalafil does not empty that fast. Mean oral clearance is 2.5 L/hr. A large fraction of Friday's exposure is still present Saturday afternoon.
The parent sheet sits on the tadalafil frame. This post only answers whether one 10 mg strip can cover two evenings without a second swallow.
Dinner does not erase the Saturday tail
Cialis may be taken without regard to food. That is the opposite of the sildenafil 50 mg story. A Friday steak does not punch a hole in Saturday coverage the way it delays a Viagra peak.
Alcohol is a different problem. Five or more units plus tadalafil can drop standing pressure. A heavy Friday session produces Saturday dizziness that gets blamed on a 'failed tablet' when the real issue is vasodilation plus dehydration.

Moderate drink with food is how most labels talk. Collapse, chest pain, or vision change is 999 in Scotland, not another 10 mg at midnight.
What a partner can usefully hold
The foil, the 24-hour earliest redose time, and the 999 list: chest pain, erection past four hours, sudden vision or hearing drop, collapse. That is enough. They do not need to titrate 10 mg.
If the man is ashamed to say 10 mg in a GP slot, a partner can say the milligram and the clock. Locums hear 'Cialis' and write 20 mg. The lock is 10.
Holiday insurance letters should name tadalafil 10 mg as needed, not 'ED tablets'. Customs and foreign pharmacies guess 20 mg when the word Cialis is alone.
Two failed timed 10 mg nights with stimulation belong in the appointment, not a third secret tablet from a friend. Vascular work-up beats another foil.
If Saturday was good without a second swallow, write that down. It is evidence that weekend glass worked as half-life, not as a double dose.
What to write down before the GP slot
Dose time, meal size, alcohol units, whether stimulation happened, erection quality, headache, back ache, and whether a second tablet was taken. Two weekends of that beat five adjectives.
NHS repeats in Scotland sometimes default to 20 mg because a previous clinic used the ceiling. Bring the blister. If the lock is 10 mg, say so.
Partners who keep the foil should also know the nitrate rule. Angina spray in the same weekend bag ends tadalafil, including residual Saturday exposure.
- Friday 10 mg time and Saturday earliest legal redose (plus 24 h).
- Any GTN, isosorbide, or poppers in the house.
- Back pain Monday after Friday dosing is a known tadalafil pattern, not a mystery injury.
How a 10 mg repeat gets rewritten as 20 mg
Scottish repeats sometimes copy the last private 20 mg holiday pack. The lock on this desk is 10 mg PRN. Say the milligram at every renewal, not only the word Cialis.
Quantity for weekend glass is not thirty daily tablets. Eight or twelve 10 mg tablets may be a month of planned Fridays. Ask the window to price that count.
If the dispenser hands you 20 mg because 'it is the same drug', do not split them into homemade 10 mg unless the tablet is scored and the prescriber wrote that. Uneven halves are not the lock.
A note on the record - tadalafil 10 mg as needed, not daily 2.5, not 20 mg first - survives locums better than a hallway conversation.
Bring last month's blister. A 20 mg box that lasted four Fridays means someone already stepped you up. Ask whether that was intended.
Partners collecting the repeat should carry the same sentence. Reception hears Cialis and types the ceiling.
Nitrates added after the last review retire the 10 mg. Mention new GTN before the next Friday, not after.
Saturday disappointment is often not washout
Performance anxiety, untreated hypogonadism, and severe arterial disease do not yield to calendar tricks. Two well-timed 10 mg attempts with stimulation still fail? The problem is indication or comorbidity, not a missing second foil.
Mixing a Friday PRN 10 mg with leftover daily 2.5 or 5 mg from an old BPH script is two pathways into the same molecule. Hypotension threads start there.
Generic switches change tablet colour. Confirm the 10 mg stamp before treating a yellow almond as a 20 mg 'holiday special'.
The weekend bag that ends 10 mg
A GTN spray in the same rucksack as Friday's 10 mg is the contraindication that calendar math cannot fix. Residual Saturday exposure is still tadalafil. Partners who 'only use the spray for steep hills' need the same sentence as daily angina patients: no PDE5, including leftover Friday drug.
Poppers sit in the same nitrate family. Festival weekends in Scotland are where that combination lands in A and E. The 36-hour trial window is not a safe popper window.
Riociguat is the other absolute. It is rare on a George Street list and still ends the conversation. If pulmonary-hypertension tablets appeared after a holiday clinic, bring them before the next 10 mg.
Alpha-blockers are caution, not the same wall. First-dose hypotension is the worry, especially if tamsulosin and Friday 10 mg share a late pub night. Sit-to-stand symptoms Saturday morning are a reason to skip the second tablet and call, not to add 20 mg.
Write the cardiac list on the same card as the Friday swallow time. Weekend glass fails more often from a hidden nitrate than from a short half-life.
Monday back pain after Friday 10 mg
Myalgia and back pain show up more in tadalafil trials than with the shorter PDE5 drugs. Couples blame a 'pulled muscle' from Saturday when Friday 10 mg is the more boring explanation.
The ache often fades over a couple of days. It is not a reason to take a second Saturday tablet 'to finish the weekend'. Extra exposure can thicken the ache.
If the pain is sudden, one-sided, or comes with chest pressure, do not call it tadalafil. That is 999 thinking, not weekend-glass thinking.
Men who already live with lumbar disease should log whether Monday is worse only after 10 mg Fridays. That log decides a step down to 5 mg PRN, not a silent 20 mg.
Hydration and a heavy Friday session both mimic the same Monday stiffness. Write alcohol units next to the swallow time before you abandon the 10 mg lock.
When the interval stretches past 24 hours
Creatinine clearance 30 to 50 mL/min: start 5 mg, and the maximum as-needed dose is 10 mg not more than once every 48 hours. Clearance under 30 mL/min or dialysis: 5 mg not more than once every 72 hours. Weekend glass math changes in those groups.
Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ritonavir, ketoconazole, itraconazole) push the as-needed cap to 10 mg no more often than every 72 hours. A Friday-Saturday pair is then off the label even if both evenings look romantic on a calendar.
Organic nitrates and riociguat stay contraindicated at every interval. Half-life does not create a safe window for GTN spray.
Thirty-six hours is a trial finding, not a second tablet
As-needed Cialis improved erectile function versus placebo up to 36 hours after the dose. That sentence is in section 2.1 of the US label. It does not say take another 10 mg at hour 20 because Saturday looks promising.
Maximum recommended frequency for most patients is once per day. Twenty-four hours from Friday 19:00 is Saturday 19:00. Earlier than that, a second tablet stacks exposure and stacks headache, back pain, and hypotension.
Many men still have usable residual inhibition on Saturday without redosing. If Friday already produced flush, nasal congestion, or a soft blood-pressure drop, Saturday is a rest night, not a booster night.
Weekend 10 mg numbers
If Saturday still needs a tablet
Wait the labelled 24 hours. Confirm Friday's 10 mg is actually gone from the plan, not sitting under residual effect you are ignoring. Then one tablet, not two halves from a 20 mg strip.
Men who argue about redosing every weekend may need the daily-versus-PRN conversation, not a thicker PRN. That fork is daily 2.5 versus 10 mg. Confirm any change with the clinician who holds the chart.
